Controversy erupted last week over the casting of a black actor in aPortland, Oregon, production of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf Shoebox Theatre director Michael Streeter was asked by the Albee estate to re-cast the role with a white actor. He refused, and the estate pulled the rights. The Dramatists Guild is aware of the recent casting controversy and has just released the following statement.
