Alan Jay Lerner, the Tony Award-winning lyricist of Gigi, My Fair Lady and more, originally planned to collaborate with Andrew Lloyd Webber on the long-running, hit Broadway musical The Phantom of the Opera — but was forced to withdraw — according to U.K. publication The Stage.
