I was desperately sad to learn that the front row of the stalls at the Olivier, National Theatre are henceforth - despite a solemn undertaking given by Peter Hall before the move from the Old Vic to the South Bank - to be denied to those enthusiasts who, over many years, have not been afraid to get up early, travel for miles and queue for hours in the rain for front row seats at a sensible price.
