1776 by Sarah Downs

Impassioned and well intentioned, this spare production of 1776 benefits from the talents of a strong cast, but eventually suffers from the production's desire to Get Its Point Across. You have to trust your material. The non-traditional casting is cool, and the performances well worth seeing, but zeal eventually transforms 1776 from historical drama into simplistic didacticism, belted fortissimo.
